Network Attached Storage
Network Attached Storage, or NAS, can be a cost-efficient method of implementing
traditional file servers designed and optimized for storage and storage management.
It is most likely that an iSCSI based iSAN is a better solution than most NAS solutions.
NAS offers network shares that are equivalent to a traditional file server. A traditional file server could be configured to access a shared pool of data on a Connexan iSAN
and offer all of the benefits of a NAS device at a reduced cost with greater flexibility.

Storage Area Networks - Enterprise Performance
Storage Area Networks, or SANs, have become increasingly critical to Business
Technologies. SANs are usually based on Fibre Channel technology. They
are generally complex and require someone with significant knowledge of both Fibre
Channel as well as Storage Subsystems to be implemented properly and most efficiently.

Connexan has been working with SANs since their original introduction. Our
primary experience has been with IBM Storage but we also have experience with various
other vendors.
While SANs were once the "only way to go" for shared storage, that is no longer
the case. Today, SANs make sense for your most performance and latency-critical
data. In the next two to three years, iSANs (iSCSI-based SANs) will become the dominant
player in the shared storage market.
For dedicated, high performance database and application servers, fibre-channel
based SANs are still appropriate. The cost of ownership and robust management technologies
are key for the success of these applications. |
