IBM BladeCenter is number one in market share. The BladeCenter Ecosystem has over
200 partners and offers the widest selection of IO modules and cards in the entire
industry.
The BladeCenter product is comprised of three major components: The BladeCenter
Chassis, the IO Modules, and the Blade Servers. There are other parts involved,
but those are the important pieces to understand as far as the relationship to traditional
servers.
The Chassis is the building block of blades. IBM Blade Server will work in any of
the Chassis on our Chassis page. The IO modules go in the back of the Chassis to
provide access for the Blade Servers to the rest of your infrastructure. There are
network IO modules from Cisco, Nortel and IBM. There are Fibre Channel switch IO
modules from Brocade, QLogic and Cisco. Cisco Infiniband is supported, as well.
